The Champion Universal Rotary Machine, F.L. Smithe Model "UR", is a basic folding machine which is adjustable over a large range of sizes for the manufacture of open end (pocket-style) envelopes and booklet (wallet-style) envelopes at speeds up to 100 epm.
The operation of the UR is simple and reliable. The machine requires very little attention or adjustment during its operation, and can be size changed rapidly with the tools that are supplied with the machine. Paper waste is kept to a minimum during changes resulting in profitable, short production runs.
All envelopes are run with open seal flaps, making it convenient for clasping or insertion applications. Pre-printed and certain open window blanks can also be run on the UR machine. All envelope blanks must be pre-cut by external dies before usage.
Other features which contribute to the quality and the versatility of the Universal Rotary Model UR, include:
- Simple operator side adjustments assure proper blank stack alignment at the beginning of the process.
- Seams are subjected to proper pressure and time to ensure quality side and bottom flap sealing.
- Seal and bottom flap gummers are easy to change, resulting in inexpensive and quick size changes.
- Secure paper transfer through the machine enables the UR to handle a wide variety of papers.
