Founded in 1904 by Ferdinand L. Smithe in New York City, the F.L. Smithe Machine Company specializes exclusively in machine products for the envelope manufacturing industry. Our firm is still operated by the founding Smithe family, which now includes members of the fourth generation, a rare feat in these modern days. Our policy of expanding to new markets, and constant product improvement has established F.L. Smithe as the foremost manufacturer of envelope machinery in the Western Hemisphere. Throughout the years F.L. Smithe has kept pace with changes and provided machines capable of manufacturing any envelope seen on the market. As the needs of the American envelope producers were met and satisfied we looked beyond our own borders and began to provide quality machines to the international community. As a result of this emphasis, F.L. Smithe has established a significant presence throughout the world. A team of service engineers based in Europe is at our customers' disposal for training, planned maintenance or rapid intervention. This office handles sales to other areas such as Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. F.L. Smithe handles sales directly to countries in Europe and South America. Representatives in Australia, Asia and other areas enable us to serve customers worldwide. Our policies are founded in the traditions of the past but we use our experience to guide us forward. We remain proud of our reputation for building machinery to the highest standards, utilizing modern design, as well as stressing simplicity and sturdy construction.
